Liz sighed. While she had accepted being the Keeper of Elysium, it was a big responsibility. It had been 4 years since she had come to Vancouver. To be honest, she wasn't even supposed to be alive. Her sire, Damian, had embraced her without her consent and without permission from the top of the food chain. Damian had never cared about the city's Prince's laws. Hell, when the Prince's people had found Damian, he put up a fight.
For a long time, she had thought all vampires were the same. It had been quite the reality check to be told that there were several kinds of vampire. She had been told she was a Ravnos vampire. Whatever that meant. Damian had been killed 5 years after having embraced her. By then, he had already decided to send her away, to fend for herself. It had been difficult to adapt, especially since mostly been on her own.
What she found on later, was that, apparently, Damian had been a founder of the orphanage she had grown up in. According to the records she managed to access about him after his death. For so many years, he had been the "Man with Money". Elusive yet influential. He had been in the area around the orphanage for decades, hiding behind a civilized appearance. About 3 years after being Embraced by him, she had found that he had been drinking the blood of several of the people barely above the age of 16.
Liz thought back to that time. She wasn't sure at all that it was proper to do what he had done, feeding on that young people. Whenever she herself needed to feed, she found a willing partner. After having been on her own, she had found that most vampires didn't care for the age of the people they fed from. She wasn't a fan of feeding directly from humans. She was a bit of a peacekeeper. To her, feeding from a human felt like an intimacy she wasn't ready for. Not even after all these years. It didn't matter that they wouldn't remember her feeding from them.
Damian had taught her to take only what was absolutely needed. While she was getting hit with pleasure, she still wasn't a fan of doing so.
But dwelling in the past wouldn't be doing her any favors. There was work to be done. There was a killer on the loose in the Red Light district and he, or she, needed to be found and facing the consequences of their actions.
As she headed towards the Red Light District, from the Elysium, she wasn't entirely sure why she was going there. She wasn't much of a warrior. She wouldn't stand a chance if she faced an experienced vampire. But she could, and would, observe from the shadows. Looking around, she saw several vampires around her. Prince Dizzy had let everyone know that there was something, or someone, causing trouble most place and the nearby territory and in the nearby cities.
She also needed to feed. Knowing she had a few partners in the Red Light district was a relief. Xavier was always down for a good time. So was James. It had been a while since she had seen either of them. Xavier lived closer to her current location than James did. Also, whatever was hunting the vampires, also hunted humans. Actually, no type of people were safe. She decided to see if she could find Xavier. For one to check on him, and also to feed.
